5G is coming to affordable smartphones. According to a new rumor, Samsung intends to offer a 5G version of the Galaxy A42 (the successor to the Galaxy A41) in 2021. In addition, Qualcomm and Mediatek chips are already available to allow brands to offer smartphones 5G affordable.
When the first 5G smartphones arrived in 2019, they were only high-end models. Then, little by little, this technology arrived on slightly more affordable devices, such as the 5G version of the Samsung Galaxy A51 . And normally, this trend should continue.
In an article published this week, Sammobile indicates that next year, Samsung should launch an even more affordable 5G model. More specifically, the manufacturer intends to offer a 5G version of the Galaxy A42, which will be the successor to the Galaxy A41 (available only in 4G).
5G becomes accessible on more affordable models
If 5G is no longer reserved for premium smartphones, it is also thanks to the chip manufacturers who make this technology available on components designed for mid-range devices. In June, for example, Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 690 chip , which will allow brands to sell inexpensive 5G devices. “This new platform is designed to make 5G user experiences even more widely available around the world. The Snapdragon 690 also supports on-device artificial intelligence and dynamic entertainment experiences. HMD Global, LG Electronics, Motorola, SHARP, TCL and Wingtech are among the OEM / ODM which should announce smartphones equipped with Snapdragon 690 “, had announced the company. Earlier, in May, Qualcomm also presented the Snapdragon 768 G , an SoC that supports 5G and which will equip models whose price / quality ratios will certainly be very interesting. In November, Qualcomm estimated that the deployment of 5G on smartphones would be faster than that of 4G when it arrived (however, the pandemic will probably have an impact on this deployment).
For its part, the Mediatek company already offers the Dimensity 820 chip , which also supports 5G. This chip is already used by one of the affordable smartphones of the Redmi brand.
