HP Elite Dragonfly : the most enduring hybrid notebook PC
The Elite Dragonfly has joined the ranges of HP recently. This PC ultraportable screen 13.3-inch is before all designed to appeal to professionals. For them, it can be designed on demand, with options found in the catalogue of the brand.
However, a few machines with fixed configurations targeting the most demanding users, but not necessarily pros. And it will probably be their happiness. Why ? Simply because it is the machine nomadic the longest-lasting of the market at the present time. The HP Elite Dragonfly is marketed in two versions on the online site of the brand, we tested the more affordable, which is displayed to 1800 euros.
During our first getting started, we had already faitune presentation of the HP Elite Dragonfly. Because, he must admit, just this ultraportable notebook arrived in our lab, we submitted our protocols of tests to verify the promises of HP. So, in this test article, we will discuss all that could escape us and we confirm (or not) our first impressions.
Side finish, nothing to complain about. The machine does not suffer from any defect in design or assembly. The ergonomics are good, the connectors are correct (3 USB, 2 Type-C Thunderbolt 3, an HDMI output, a headphone jack) and the comfort of the backlit keyboard is excellent.
Even the touchpad surprised us ! Yet, it is a ground on which HP does not have the reputation of being good. As to the reactivity of the surface of the slab, 13.3-inch under finger pressure, it is validated.
Use a pen that is also possible since the touch-screen interface allows. The Dragonfly is positioned in the tablet mode, tent or booth, take notes or draw directly on its Full HD screen is possible.
Brightness and contrast flamboyant, observance of the colours in bern
Speak justly of the screen. In our early tests, its brightness and its contrast ratio we were amazed. After you have made several measurements, we validate. It is simply the slab, the brighter and better in contrast as we have had under the eyes. 994 cd/m2 and a maximum average, a peak at 1074 cd/m2 in the upper left ; contrast ratio average of 2436:1, blacks are less deep, where we found the peak brightness. Although these values are very high, the homogeneity is not really at the rendez-vous. Everything is clearer at the top than at the bottom. The index rises to 0.06, it is average.
Another small annoyance, the color fidelity is not as good as it should be. The deltaE is of 4.18, with blue and red much too distorted. The HP Elite Dragonfly is part of the worst of its class.
The privacy has a price
Confidentiality is important in the professional world. HP has equipped the webcam of the Dragonfly of a slide which can cover the sensor. There is also a button to disable the microphones on-board. But, the most important thing is that you do the F2 key. Pressure and the filter of privacy integrated active (Sure View). The values of brightness and contrast are then adjusted downward. The visibility remains good, provided it be well in front of the machine. Logic. However we have not been able to prevent us from noting that, even by disabling the filter, the manner in which it is placed relative to the machine to its importance. This impacts more or less the visual comfort.
And for good reason, the viewing angles horizontal and vertical of the screen are quite closed of course. The colours and sharpness of the image are altered as soon as one moves a little the slab or repositions the chair of his office. At the time of writing, this has been a real problem for many people. Not for your servant. Probably because he is accustomed to not to move when he works in front of his keyboard. It is, however, a point to be taken into account.
We cannot, however, make a case for a generality. HP offers three different display options for the Dragonfly, and we have not proven that the model ” FHD ultra bright 1 000 nits with HP Sure View G32,6 ” ; impossible to comment on the other versions.
Elite Dragonfly beats the record of autonomy
We had already found a few days ago, the HP Elite Dragonfly is a distance runner. It takes more than 13 h 15 in multi-purpose use and more 10: 15 in the video playback continues. We had not had such scores from the test of the Dell XPS 13 raw 2019 and yet, the latter did not reach these good times.
This is the best of its category, since not one of the ultra-portable tested recently is not yet able to make her shadow. Both in the family PC as a Mac. In addition, its massive battery, charging to 50% in 34 minutes and is completely full in only 2 hours 20.
HP Elite Dragonfly : As quiet as hot
We had already mentioned in our previous article, the configuration of onboard is not the latest generation. It consists of an Intel platform two-year-old, 8 Gb memory and 256 Gb of SSD. To compare it with some of the sets of components, more current, please refer to our test of the Huawei MateBook D 14 2020 for which we took the Elite as meter-standard on a few tests.
This configuration is what it is perfectly able to run the apps from desktop, web, and multimedia in the greatest silence. Only 32 dB maximum readings in the case of maximum stress, it is impressive, but there is eel under rock.
In fact, the mercury climbs high on the entire case. We measured 30°C on the palm rest and up to 40°C on the top of the keyboard. Under the machine, the thermometer reached almost 48°C at the level of the right hinge.
The power, the finesse (1.65 cm) and a fan muzzled, the perfect cocktail for the throttle. The Intel Core i5-8265U lowers its frequency at the end of 35 seconds. It only takes a minute to move from its nominal speed (1.6 GHz) to 900 MHz. This occurs only in a condition to mobilize at once all hearts and the graphics part integrated. A rare situation for this type of machine.
