For 2020, Samsung Qled TVs are now called Q60T, Q70T, Q80T and Q95T in Ultra HD, as well as Q800T and Q950TS for 8K Ultra. All Ultra HD televisions have a 10-bit VA panel with an Ultra HD definition of 3,840 x 2,160 px, while 8K Ultra models have a 10-bit VA panel with a definition of 7,680 x 4,320 px. Compared to last year, the televisions go down a little range since the models Q60T and Q70T are satisfied with a 50 Hz panel and an Edge-Led backlight system. You will have to switch to Q80T to inherit a 100 Hz panel and a Full LED backlight system with only 48 zones. Finally, Samsung’s most high-end Ultra HD model for 2020, the Q95T, is content with.

All these new models use the Tizen home system, which is now compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple TV, Netflix, YouTube, Disney + and AirPlay 2. These televisions also benefit from the Multiview feature which allows you to display the sound screen. smartphone next to the image broadcast on the screen (HDMI, TV or other). The 2020 models are very disparate in terms of characteristics since a Q60T is closer to a Samsung RU7405 of 2019, and that it is necessary to turn to the Samsung Q80T to obtain a Qled TV worthy of the name equivalent to the Samsung Q70R of last year.

Samsung Q60T: the entry-level Qled TV Edge-Led which has Qled only in name

Samsung Q60T
Samsung Q60T

The Samsung Q60T is the most affordable model in the Qled 2019 range. It has a 10-bit VA panel (8-bit + FRC) 50 Hz displaying an Ultra HD definition (3,840 x 2,160 px) and using a quantum box filter allowing to display more colors. This model differs from that of 2019 by the integration of a Dual Led backlight system. There are not two led bars, but only one located at the base of the slab, exploiting two types of leds, some producing a cold light, the others a warm light. According to Samsung, this arrangement improves the contrast and color accuracy.

The Dual Led system therefore remains of the Edge Led type and the capacities of this television in HDR should be limited as on the Q60R of last year which had largely disappointed us, not doing better than the Samsung RU7405 . Hopefully the Q60T can do a little better, but it’s unlikely. Indeed, Samsung has again dragged the Qled range towards the entry level. This Samsung Q60T television effectively replaces last year’s Samsung RU7405. To be convinced, the Samsung Q60T is quite simply the first Qled stamped television not to be compatible with FreeSync (technology which prevents image tearing and micro-jerks in video games, especially with Xbox One S / X).

The connection consists of three HDMI 2.0 inputs, two USB 2.0 ports, an optical digital audio output (SPDIF), an Ethernet port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a TNT, cable and satellite tuner (DVB-T / T2, DVB-C, DVB-S / S2). In terms of audio, the Samsung Q60T is content with two 10 W speakers. The Samsung Q60T will be available in 43, 50, 55, 65, 75 and 85 inch versions under the references QE43Q60T, QE50Q60T, QE55Q60T, QE65Q60T, QE75Q60T and QE85Q60T.

Samsung Q70T: 100 Hz panel, HDMI 2.1, dual tuner, FreeSync and remote control with hands-free microphone

Samsung Q70T
Samsung Q70T

The Samsung Q70T TV uses the same base as the Samsung Q60T, but it inherits a 100 Hz panel and four HDMI 2.1 ports. This means that the television theoretically supports Ultra HD signals at 120 Hz, which is perfect for video games, but has little interest with this 50 Hz panel. It is also compatible with eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel ), an improved version of the ARC that allows the audio signal received by the TV to be returned to a sound bar or amplifier via an HDMI cable. The eARC provides better bandwidth allowing the use of Dolby Atmos or DTS: X streams.

This TV is also compatible with HDMI 2.0 ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) which automatically reduces the delay in display when a console is detected. Compared to the Q60T, the Samsung Q70T also brings a double tuner allowing to record a channel while watching another program, compatibility with the FreeSync – useful for owners of an Xbox – and a remote control with a hands-free microphone . It also introduces the Active Voice Amplifier functionality which offers to increase the voice of the program watched according to ambient noises (for example when someone is vacuuming). Unfortunately, this Samsung Q70T should be content with an image quality close to that of the Q60T, and therefore that of the RU7405. This should be very good in SDR, but not in HDR.

Samsung Q80T: a 48-zone Full Led backlight system and an improved audio system

Qled
Samsung Q80T

The Samsung Q80T television exchanges the Edge-Led backlighting system of the Q70T for a Full Led system from 24 to 96 zones depending on the size (48 zones on a 55 inch model) called Full Led Local Dimming Silver. It’s not much, but allows to offer a higher brightness peak compared to the Qled 70T, and especially to limit blooming a little more – a halo effect that appears around luminous objects on a black background.

The Samsung Q80T should logically display a peak in brightness close to that measured on the Samsung QE65Q70R last year, which used the same backlighting system. We had measured a peak of 723 cd / m² for the Q70R, which makes it possible to display a beautiful HDR image, and as such, the Samsung Q80T is – for us – the first model to deserve the name of Qled and to be able compete with Oled TVs. The Samsung Q80T also has a 100 Hz panel like the Q70T.

In addition to this 100 Hz panel and a Full Led backlight system, the Samsung Q80T has a more advanced audio system composed of six speakers: two oriented down, two on the sides and two woofers for bass, powerful total of 60 W. These speakers benefit from the house technology Object Tracking Sound which allows the spatialization of sound according to the movement of objects on the screen. The TV also incorporates Q-Symphony technology which combines the capabilities of the TV’s audio system with those of a sound bar. We will have to test these two systems to judge their effectiveness. The Samsung Q80T is available in five diagonals: 49, 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches.

Summary of features.

  • 10-bit Ultra HD VA LCD panel (8-bit + FRC)
  • 100 Hz (49 inches at 50 Hz)
  • Wide Viewing Angle treatment (except on 49 inches)
  • 48-zone Full-Led backlight system (on 65-inch model)
  • 4K Quantum Processor Video Processor (Adaptive Picture, 4K AI Upscaling)
  • Real Game Enhancer + (image enhancement in games, especially to unblock dark areas)
  • FreeSync
  • HDR10 / HLG / HDR10 + compatibility
  • Audio system 2.2.2 -60 W
  • Object Tracking Sound (spatialization of sound) and Q-Symphony (coupling with a sound bar), except for the 49 inch
  • Active Voice Amplifier
  • Dual TNT / cable / satellite tuner (DVB-T / T2, DVB-C, DVB-S / S2)
  • Tizen 5.5: Bixby, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, SmartThings, AirPlay 2, Multiview, PIP, Ambient Mode

Samsung Q95T: the reference anti-reflective filter, a more efficient Full Led system and the One Connect box

Qled
Samsung Q95T

If the Samsung Q95T incorporates the basic characteristics of the Q80T, it benefits from many significant improvements. The first is the presence of the highest quality anti-reflective filter from the Korean manufacturer. Discovered last year on the Q80R, Q90R and the 8K Q950R, this filter greatly reduces reflections and widens viewing angles. To date, it is still the best anti-reflective filter on the market. The second major difference is the use of a Full Led system with twice as many backlight zones. Called Full Led Local Dimming Gold, this system has 60 zones for a 55-inch model, 96 zones for a 65-inch panel and 140 zones for the 75-inch model (the number of zones for the 85-inch model is not specified. ). VS’

Doubling the zones should still reduce blooming and reach a peak of brightness greater than 1000 cd / m² (we had measured 1120 cd / m² on last year’s Samsung QE65Q85R equipped with the same system backlight). With The Frame, the Samsung Q95T TV is the only Ultra HD model to use the One Connect box which allows you to deport all of the connectors and power to an external box. The latter is very practical when you have to hang the TV on the wall. Finally, the Samsung Q95T inherits the One Remote aluminum remote control.

Summary of features.

  • 10-bit Ultra HD VA LCD panel (8-bit + FRC)
  • 100 Hz
