The line between professional and consumer products is sometimes very thin, as evidenced by the new AKG helmets. Initially launched in monitoring version, the K361 BT and K371 BT are converted to Bluetooth to reach a wider audience.

It is not very surprising to see AKG transform a monitoring headset into a Bluetooth headset, the company being indeed very present in the professional and general public sectors. Only a few months after the availability of its latest models K361 and K371, the Austrian audio brand is launching point blank two Bluetooth versions called K361 BT and K371 BT.

Aesthetically speaking, the monitoring and Bluetooth models are very similar. All dressed in black, the helmets adopt a discreet design with rounded lines. The hinge between the headband and the earpieces pivots completely to orient the earpieces inwards (towards the headband) and a slide system ensures the height adjustment. The helmet can therefore be folded down for easier transport. Both models are fitted with over-ear earphones, with a leatherette coating.

AKG did not make life difficult to convert its models to wireless. The K361 BT and K371 BT have a Bluetooth 5.0 module (compatibility with SBC and AAC codecs only) and a microUSB port for recharging. No functionality seems to be offered, except the eternal hands-free micro kit. We expected a little more for Bluetooth headsets released in 2020… The wired audio connection does not change between the monitoring and Bluetooth models: a mini-jack input for the K361 BT and a mini-XLR input for the K371 BT. Rest assured, several cables (two mini-jack cables of different sizes for the K361 BT and two mini-XLR cables to mini-jack of different sizes for the K371 BT) and a mini-jack to 6.35mm jack adapter are provided.

These newcomers to the AKG catalog play on the monitoring and pro aspect to promise excellent sound performances. Obviously, we will have to wait until we have them to verify this. Here are the audio specificities communicated by AKG:

K361 BT

  • Frequency response: from 5 Hz to 40 kHz
  • Sensitivity: 114 dB SPL
  • Impedance: 32 ohms

K371 BT

  • Frequency response: from 15 Hz to 28 kHz
  • Sensitivity: 114 dB SPL
  • Impedance: 32 ohms

The K361 BT and K371 BT are already available, respectively at the target price of € 155 and € 250, compared to € 100 and € 135 for the K361 and K371.
