Galaxy Note 7 : the batteries are the cause of the explosions
What is the cause of the explosions which have caused the recall of the Galaxy Note 7, and then the total stop of its manufacture ? In front of such a fiasco, the manufacturer Samsung had to react to regild his blazon, and to regain the confidence of its customers. It has thus proceeded to a campaign ambitious of tests to find out what the problem was. This campaign has focused on the 200.000 devices, as well as 30,000 batteries and involved over 700 testers.
After analyzing the battery, the verdict is in : they are the cause of the explosions from the Galaxy Note 7. But the study revealed that there has not been a single problem. In the original batteries of the smartphone, a design defect caused a containment too important to the negative electrode, causing it to twist and therefore a risk of contact with the positive electrode. As for a battery, a contact between the two electrodes, causes a short circuit and a temperature rise of the battery which can then catch fire or explode.
On 15 September last year, Samsung launched a recall campaign of its Galaxy Note 7, to be replaced by models that are safer, with new batteries. Except that these batteries have a manufacturing defect that causes ruptures of the insulation between the positive electrodes and negative. Worse yet, some batteries do not contain a layer of insulating material, which increases the separation between the two electrodes. The result is again short-circuits and explosions of devices.
Samsung has then only one solution : stop marketing its Galaxy Note 7 and remember definitely the 3 million devices already sold. To date, 96% of smartphones incriminating has been recovered by the manufacturer. Samsung also promises to test more intensively its batteries to prevent accidents of this type do not recur.
The smartphone Galaxy Note 7 is not failing
During the testing, the manufacturer has also analyzed the Note 7 to check if the problem does not come of charge/discharge cycles, or even the USB connector Type-C, or a software problem. It is nothing is the smartphone is definitely out of the question. However, the resumption of the marketing of the Note 7 is not the order of the day, Samsung is preferring to focus on the launch of its future Galaxy S8.
